Competitive power generation market: The price of electricity and payment in the market is increasingly transparent

The number of factories participating in the market is increasing, the competitive bidding is becoming more and more professional and effective, ensuring system security and contributing to stabilizing the supply for the demand of the country. Good signal in the competitive electricity generation market (VCGM) in the first 6 months of 2014.

According to the National Power System Modernization Center (A0), in the first six months of 2014, the number of factories directly involved in VCGM has increased steadily, including those outside EVN.

Specifically, four factories have officially offered competitive prices, including Ba Thuoc (from 1 January), Mao Khe Thermo Power (from 01/03), An Khe-Ka Nak Hydroelectricity, Khe Hydropower Father (from 1/6). The increase in the number of participating factories not only makes the VCGM more active but also contributes to the competitiveness of the market. On the other hand, the units also gradually professionalize the bidding, looking for more profits when joining VCGM.

Accordingly, the price of electricity and the payment on the VCGM market is also increasingly transparent, operating under the market mechanism. A0 said that during the first half of the first quarter of 2014, due to the long holiday of Lunar New Year together with high mobilization of Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang and Thac Ba hydropower plants to discharge the winter-spring crop. The electricity price in the market (SMP) is quite low.

However, after the boom, when the thermal power plants were mobilized to the maximum, the market price has increased sharply and most of the hours reached the ceiling price.

However, in June, some plants were forced out of the market due to limited weekly water levels, to ensure the security of electricity supply or to ensure the discharge requirements for the downstream.

The stable and efficient operation of VCGM in the first half of 2014 is also a necessary factor to motivate the competitive electricity wholesale market to be successfully piloted in 2015.
